Maria Sakkari v Zeynep Sonmez Head to Head
Sakkari and Sonmez have never played each other before this.
Sakkari Form Continues to Remain a Concern
Maria Sakkari was ranked third in the world not so long ago but when the rankings are updated at the start of the new week, she will start at 30th. That’s to do with her consistently underwhelming performances through most part of 2024 and now again in 2025.
To give a perspective here, Sakkari has played in six tournaments in 2025 and not won more than one main draw match in any of them.
And in three of them, at the United Cup, Australian Open and WTA Dubai last week, Sakkari has lost them all without winning any.
Her last defeat in Dubai came at the hands of Emma Raducanu, who herself has been struggling for form, making things more and more difficult to fathom regarding Sakkari’s chances.

Sonmez Hasn’t Won a Main Draw Match in 2025
Having won the title here last year, Zeynep Sonmez has a huge task on her hands if she wants to defend all – or most of those points – because of the kind of performances she has dished out this year.
Sonmez has featured in six tournaments this season and in only two of them has she even been a part of the main draw – both through direct qualifications.
In the other four tournaments, Sonmez was forced to play in the qualifiers and lost her second qualifying match. That would be very putting off for someone who might have come into the season with a lot more confidence than any other years.
Her opponent might not be in the greatest of touches but given Sonmez’s form, she might need to do a lot better to get close to Sakkari here.
Sakkari v Sonmez Prediction
Backing Sakkari to show up here and clinch this in straight sets given how poorly her opponent has played all season.
Sakkari v Sonmez Tips
- Sakkari to win in straight sets: 7/5
