Stefanos Tsitsipas v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Tsitsipas has won all three. These came at the 2021 Miami and Cincinnati and then one in 2023 at Rome.
Tsitsipas Unable to String Together Wins
Stefanos Tsitsipas did win a couple of rounds at the Rotterdam Open but long gone are the times when he was winning tournaments or even reaching finals of competitions with consummate ease.
Truth be told, it’s still early days in the season and things could drastically change as we get to the slower hardcourt surfaces in Indian Wells and Miami and then on to clay but for now, Tsitsipas is struggling to win.
It started at the United Cup where he won and lost one, and then continued into the Australian Open where the Greek number one was knocked out by Alex Michelsen in the very first round.
And while he did make it through to the quarterfinals in Rotterdam, the old woes were there to trouble Tsitsipas at Doha again when he was sent packing by a limping Hamad Medjedovic.
He will start a favourite here but he will need a lot more than the odd win to get his lost mojo back.

Sonego Hoping to Build on Australian Open Showing
Not too many would have expected Lorenzo Sonego to make it as far as he did at the Australian Open earlier this season.
That’s because Sonego has made a name for himself based on his performances on clay and what that meant is that defeating Stan Wawrinka, Joao Fonseca, Fabian Marozsan and Learner Tien in four successive best-of-five matches came as a huge surprise to most.
Sonego had earlier entered the second round at both, Hong Kong and Adelaide too and later made the quarterfinals in Marseille.
Overall, Sonego’s showing this season has been better than he has ever delivered in hardcourt competitions and that is reflected in his rankings – he had started the season ranked 53rd and is now 34th coming into this.
Tsitsipas v Sonego Prediction
Tsitsipas might be the favourite on paper but given how Sonego has gone about his business in these first two months of the season, the gulf between them might have narrowed a lot. Expecting a three-setter here.
Tsitsipas v Sonego Tips
