Alexei Popyrin v Hady Habib Head to Head
Popyrin and Habib have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Popyrin 0-4 for the Season
The winner of the Canadian Open last year, one would have expected Alexei Popyrin to come back in 2025 and kick-started the season in his home run in Australia with a bang.
It has been anything but that for the Aussie with Popyrin having won a mere one set from the four matches he’s played this year. He’s lost all four matches, first round defeats at Brisbane, Australian Open, Rotterdam Open and in Doha.
His latest defeat last week in Doha came at the hands of Jack Draper who would go on to make the final of the tournament.
What Popyrin needs is a bit of a run to get going and taking on a player ranked outside of the top 150 could just be the start he needed.

Habib Showing Signs of a Fight
Hady Habib last took to court in Doha last week where he was handed a wildcard as well and the kind of tennis on show in his first round match was quite encouraging.
There too, like here, he was up against an Aussie first up in the form of Christopher O’Connell and Habib took his opponent to tie-breakers in both the sets.
Earlier in the season, Habib had been forced to feature in the Australian Open qualifiers and had won three rounds to make the main draw. Habib then caused one of the upsets on the first round when he defeated the 1/3 favourite Yunchaokete Bu in straight sets.
If Habib can continue playing in the same vein, another main draw might not be too far off and a struggling opponent like Popyrin could find it difficult.
Popyrin v Habib Prediction
While Popyrin is 3/10 to win this, we must look at how Habib has performed this season and he has shown the kind of fight that could push his Aussie to the brink. Expect a close battle.
