Petra Kvitova v Jodie Burrage Head to Head
Kvitova and Burrage have never faced off before this.
Kvitova Returns from Maternity Leave
The last time that Petra Kvitova took to court for a competitive match was in 2023 when they completed her season with four losses following four wins across the Cincinnati Open, US Open, Ningbo Open and China Open.
Following that the former world number two did not play any tennis in all of 2024 after announcing that she was pregnant.
In an announcement that Kvitová made in the week of February earlier this year, she said she would be returning to the sport for this competition in Austin.
While grass has been Kvitova’s most preferred surface with the Czech having also won a title at Wimbledon, she has done reasonably well in hardcourt competitions as well. Her 2023 season had ended on 22-10 in hardcourt competitions.
The question now is if the 34-year-old can rediscover her rhythm immediately after her return.

Burrage Hoping to Turn Things Around
Jodie Burrage has been hit by injuries in her career, so much so that she was forced to contemplate retirement last year.
The Brit opted to continue playing and while the results haven’t quite gone her way, she has mentioned she is glad she did not throw in the towel that quickly.
In her only win of the season, Burrage had defeated Leolia Jeanjean in the opening round of the Australian Open earlier this year and later admitted she cried tears of joy given what she had gone through because of her injury issues.
Following that, Burrage lost in the second round to Cori Gauff, failed to qualify for the Linz Open and was knocked out in the first round of the Cluj-Napoca Open by Ana Bogdan.

Kvitova v Burrage Prediction
Petra Kvitova will be very rusty but she is up against a player who has struggled to get past top 100 opponents in recent times and that should allow the Czech some leeway. We think the match could get close with Kvitova emerging a winner in the end.
