Zizou Bergs v Luca Nardi Head to Head
Their only previous meeting at this level came at the Auckland Open earlier this year and Bergs had won that in straight sets. They had faced off once before that on the Challenger circuit in 2022 and Nardi had won that encounter.
Bergs Has No Trouble against Dougaz
Zizou Bergs was never expected to run into too much trouble against Tunisian wildcard entrant Aziz Dougaz and he lived up to that script by clinching the victory in straight sets.
In a match lasting an hour and 15 minutes, Bergs completed a 6-3, 6-3 win to reach the second round of a competition this year for the fifth time in six attempts.
The Auckland Open finalist faced just one break-point in the encounter – in the first game of the second set -and was broken there but he retaliated with a break immediately in the very next game and then made it 4-2 soon after that.
Bergs came into this tournament on the back of a second round appearance in Doha last week where his tournament was ended by Daniil Medvedev. He was a Marseille Open semifinalist and what these results have meant is Bergs is at his career-best ranking of 56th at the moment.

Lucky Loser Nardi Avenges Fucsovics Loss
Luca Nardi had been bundled out of the competition in the second qualifying round but then got a chance to make it to the main draw as a lucky loser.
What was an even bigger coincidence is that Nardi was drawn to face Marton Fucsovics in his opener here – the same player who had sent him packing in the qualifiers.
This time around though, Nardi was more prepared as he completed a comeback from behind, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory to enter the second round of a competition for the third time this season. He had earlier also done that in Auckland and Doha.
What’s interesting to see is that Nardi last won successive matches in a tournament at this level nearly a year ago when he made the fourth round of the Indian Wells Open at the expense of Novak Djokovic.
He has a tendency to take opponents by surprise in his short career at this level so far and Bergs will need to be quite careful.
Bergs v Nardi Predictions
Bergs might start the favourite but we wouldn’t discount Nardi here. In fact there’s not much between these two and if Nardi can get stuck into Bergs’ serve we might see the latter struggle.
