Mariano Navone v Damir Dzumhur Preview
Head-to-Head: Navone and Dzumhur have never faced off before this.
Once ranked in the top 30, Mariano Navone has fallen to 64th right now but he has shown some sparkle from old on this clay court swing.
It started with wins over Francisco Comesana and Holger Rune in the first two rounds at the Argentina Open before made the second round at Rio as well with a victory over Roberto Carballes Baena.
And here in Santiago, Navone crushed Alexander Shevchenko 6-2, 6-2 to seal another second round berth.
He now faces Damir Dzumhur who is coming off a three-set win over Corentin Moutet despite starting a 17/10 favourite in the encounter.
Again, much like his opponent, Dzumhur was once ranked 23rd in the world but a string of underwhelming seasons has taken him to 90th.
Which is why, for a clay court player like Dzumhur, these wins are vital from the perspective of not letting him slide further down the rankings. A victory here could take Dzumhur close to the top 80, a motivation enough.
Navone v Dzumhur prediction: Three sets in the match: 6/5

Thiago Monteiro v Ugo Carabelli Preview
Head-to-Head: There have been three previous meetings between them on the Challenger circuit and Monteiro leads 2-1. All three have come on clay in the 2023-24 period.
It took Thiago Monteiro some time to get going in his opener here and he was stretched as well before finally clinching a place in the second round.
Needing two hours and 42 minutes of court time, Monteiro was involved in a final set tie-breaker after he led by a break at one point and was then trailing by one at another point.
Monteiro had earlier made the second round in Rio too and will now be looking to making it back to back wins in the main draw for the first time since he defeated Federico Coria and Casper Ruud in Bastad last year.
He will contend with Ugo Carbelli’s form, an Argentine who has hit a career-best ranking of 69th this year and that has been down to some of the best performances of his career over the last 12 or so months.
Having won three Challenger titles last year, Carabelli added another one Rosario earlier this year and then made the semifinal in Rio after starting out as a lucky loser.
And here in the first round, he was forced to save three match-points before edging past Nicolas Jarry 11-9 in the final set tie-breaker.
Monteiro v Carabelli prediction: Carabelli to win: 1/1
