Sebastian Baez v Damir Dzumhur Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit in 2021 and Baez had won that.
Baez Scrapes Past Comesana
Sebastian Baez had entered the tournament on the back of a title win in Rio, the seventh title of his career. He also had three days off between the final he had played in that tournament and the second round match here, with an opening round bye helping his cause.
And yet, Baez was put to the sword by fellow Argentine Francisco Comesana as he needed two hours and 36 minutes to clinch a place in the last eight.
He looked to be on his way to an easy win at one stage when he bagged the first set and then took a 3-0 lead in the second but Comesana broke back in the seventh game. And missing three more break-points in the next game, Baez lost his serve again in the 11th game to drop the set.
In the decider again, Baez frittered away a 4-2 lead before winning the set – and in turn the match – in a tie-breaker.

Dzumhur Showing Glimpses of Past
Once ranked 23rd in the world, Damir Dzumhur has fallen to 90th at the moment. But over the two matches he has played in this tournament, he has shown glimpses of why he was that highly-ranked a player.
Dzumhur, who hadn’t won back to back matches at this level all season, found a way to do that here in Santiago when he overcame Mariano Navone, a 1/5 favourite in the encounter.
After having overcome Corentin Moutet in the first round in a three-setter, Dzumhur bagged his second round victory with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Navone.
The two were on court for over two and a half hours with Dzumhur enduring three breaks of serves in the encounter. He came through with a crucial break in the eighth game of the decider before winning the encounter off his fourth match-point.
Baez v Dzumhur Prediction
Dzumhur has exhibited his stickiness in the two contests that have been on show this tournament and we can expect some more of that from him. Baez should still win but not before he has been taken to a third.
