Francisco Cerundolo v Laslo Djere Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the 2020 Argentina Open and Djere had won that opening round encounter.
Cerundolo in a Fighting Win over Etcheverry
A finalist at the Argentina Open, a quarterfinalist in Rio and Francisco Cerundolo has now made it to the semifinal in Santiago. That, however, hasn’t been the easiest pathway with Cerundolo having been taken to three sets in both the matches he’s played so far in this tournament.
After getting an opening round bye, Cerundolo was taken to a final set tie-breaker by Yannick Hanfmann before he edged his way through to the next round.
In the quarterfinals, he was involved in a tight, all-Argentina battle with Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
Cerundolo was on court for nearly three hours in which he edged out Etcheverry 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a rather cagey encounter. He lost his serve just twice in the entire match while getting better of Etcheverry’s service on three occasions.
If he continues to combine his pedigree with the kind of fighting effort that he has shown in this tournament, Cerundolo could well be in line for another solid showing.

Djere Edges Past Faria
Laslo Djere made it his second semifinal in a row when he overcame a spirited challenge from Jaime Faria in his Santiago quarterfinal.
In a match lasting two hours and 42 minutes, Djere edged out Faria 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4 to follow up with his semifinal showing in Buenos Aires with another last four appearance here.
Both players dropped their serve three times apiece – Djere was broken twice in the second set and once in the decider but once he had taken a 3-2 lead in the final set there was no looking back.
What these results mean is that Djere, who had begun the season ranked 115th in the world has broken back into the top 90 and can go on to do a lot better if he wins this.
Cerundolo v Djere Prediction
Cerundolo starts an 11/20 favourite but that might not reflect the true nature of how close these two players are what with Djere showing some sparkle with his form. We expect this to be a tight encounter and the games handicap market looks to be a good one to consider.
