McCartney Kessler v Greet Minnen Head to Head
Kessler and Minnen will face off in a competitive match for the first time here.
Kessler in a Comeback Win over Cirstea
Sorana Cirstea tried to dig deep into her experience but it wasn’t enough as McCartney Kessler found a way to get out of an early strife she found herself in.
In a quarterfinal match lasting two hours and 20 minutes, Kessler clinched a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 victory, improving with each passing game before closing out the final set in less than half hour.
Earlier in the tournament, the American had eased past Viktorija Golubic and had had to face a similar ordeal in the second round against Cristina Bucsa. Kessler had lost the first set to Bucsa too before needing a final set tie-breaker to edge past her opponent.
This was Kessler’s fifth win in six matches following her title at the Hobart International and three successive first round exits including one at the Australian Open. A win here could take her back into the top 50 of the WTA Rankings.

Minnen Stalls the Dolehide Threat
Once ranked 59th in the world, Minnen has fallen to 92nd on the WTA charts and had come into this tournament on the back of just two wins all season.
And when she lost the first set of her opening round encounter against Sijia Wei, it looked like another quick ouster from a tournament was on the cards.
Instead, Minnen found a way back into the tournament and a few days later has also found a path to the semifinals. Since losing that opening set, Minnen has lost just 13 games spread across six sets which includes a straight-set win over Caroline Dolehide in the quarterfinal round.
Minnen was on court for an hour and 32 minutes and fought back from being 0-2 down in the second set to win 6-3, 7-5 and make the semis.
Kessler v Minnen Prediction
Kessler could face a tough cookie in the form of Minnen here and we could end up seeing a three-setter that Minnen could edge.
