Emma Navarro v Elina Avanesyan Head to Head
Navarro has beaten Avanesyan in their only previous meeting that came in Auckland in 2024.
Navarro Eases Past Sonmez
A quarterfinalist at the Australian Open, Emma Navarro was unable to reproduce that run at the following two tournaments she participated.
Navarro was sent packing in straight sets by Leylah Fernandez in her Doha opener, before crashing to a three-set defeat at the hands of Sorana Cirstea in the third round of the WTA Dubai.
Which is why this tournament in Merida was quite vital for Navarro before she heads into the Indian Wells Open next week.
The American needs to get her rhythm going yet again and so far, in the two matches she has featured in here, looks to have done just that.
Navarro had an opening round bye here and followed that up by losing just three games in the second round against Petra Martic. Zeynep Sonmez gave Navarro a bigger fight but the American came through 6-4, 6-2 to cruise into the semifinals.

Avanesyan in a Comeback Win over Joint
Maya Joint might not be a top-20 player at the moment but she has had a solid start to the season. And that’s why she had gone into her quarterfinal against Elina Avanesyan as a favourite.
Avanesyan, who had earlier come back from being a set down against Magdalena Frech and then defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the second, lost the first set to Joint too – a total of five successive breaks of serves helped her out there.
The duo further traded serves in two of the first three games of the second set but from that point onward, Avanesyan did not look back.
She broke Joint again and again after that, not allowing her Aussie opponent to hold her serve even once and completed a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Can she bring that same fighting spirit to this semifinal as well as she hunts for her second career WTA final.
Navarro v Avanesyan Prediction
Navarro will start a 1/2 favourite but will need to wary of not taking anything for granted till the match is firmly in her bag given Avanesyan’s ability to put up a show till the very end.
Navarro v Avanesyan Tips
- Navarro to win: 1/2
- Over 20.5 games in the match: 8/11
