Anhelina Kalinina v Lucia Bronzetti Head to Head
At this level there have been two previous meetings – both in 2024 and both players have won one apiece. Kalinina won their hardcourt match in Abu Dhabi while they had faced off last year in this very tournament in the second round where Bronzetti had triumphed.
Kalinina Hoping for a Brisbane Encore
Anhelina Kalinina had started things off for 2025 in fine fashion.
The Ukrainian player defeated Wang Yafan, Diana Shnaider, Yue Yuan and Kimberly Birrell on her way to the semifinal of the Brisbane International before her journey was ended by Polina Kudermetova.
It was a solid showing overall from Kalinina and one that she could have built on as the season grew. So far, however, she has done nothing of that sort.
In the six tournaments that she has featured in after Brisbane, Kalinina has won just three matches – two in Cluj-Napoca and her opener in Merida. Other than that, losses at the hands of Daria Saville, Rebecca Sramkova and Aliaksandra Sasnovich, to name a few, would be a bit of a worry.

Cluj-Napoca Finalist Bronzetti Looking for a Repeat Showing
Lucia Bronzetti had won just one main draw match in the first four tournaments she featured in this season, having beaten Victoria Azarenka at the Australian Open.
With that kind of a record, she went into the Cluj-Napoca Open knowing the odds were drastically against her to come up with a performance to remember.
When Bronzetti defeated Simona Halep in the opener to end her career, it looked like it was par for the course but she then went on a winning spree.
She shocked Peyton Stearns, overcame Elisabetta Cocciaretto and was 4-0 up against Katerina Siniakova when her opponent retired to give her a passage to the final.
And while Anastasia Potapova edged her out to win the title, Bronzetti will be a lot more confident coming into this one now than she was a month earlier.
Kalinina v Bronzetti Predictions
Here are two players who have had their moments this year but haven’t quite been able to consistently go deeper into tournaments. They have also had a 1-1 record on head to head, which tells us we could see a fight here that goes into the third set with Kalinina holding a slight edge.
Kalinina v Bronzetti Tips
