Petra Kvitova v Varvara Gracheva Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2023 Miami Open where Kvitova had won in two tight sets to make the quarterfinals.
Kvitová Makes a Losing Start to Comeback
Petra Kvitova returned to competitive tennis at the Austin Open following her maternity break.
The former Wimbledon champion and world number two looked to have done well to start things off, winning the opening set against Jodie Burrage but went on to lose in three.
Before that, the last time that Kvitova had featured in a match at this level was at the 2023 China Open where she had made the second round.
She then went on a break from tennis following an announcement that she was expecting her first child.
To give a context of how Kvitova had gone about her business in hardcourt competitions the last season she featured in, it was 22 wins from 32 matches.
She has been awarded a wildcard here.

Gracheva Has Just Two Wins for the Season
Known more for her performances on clay, Varvara Gracheva has made a struggling start to the season so far.
She had won her opener at the Australian Open and then surprised Peyton Stearns in the first round in Austin last week. Other than that, Gracheva has only seen losses – five of them.
So while the clay swing couldn’t come sooner for Gracheva, it must be quickly added here that the Indian Wells Open surfaces are slightly slower in nature as compared to other hardcourt competitions.
This is also probably why Gracheva’s best showing in a WTA 1000 event has come here with the Frenchwoman reaching the fourth round of this competition in 2023. She could give her opponent a bit of a fight.
Kvitova v Gracheva Predictions
Kvitova starts off a 4/5 favourite and she showed enough class in her return for her to deserve those odds. She might gets stretched in one of the sets or might even need a third set.
