Marcos Giron has made a decent start to the season but has still seen his ranking fall a tad. Having begun the year ranked 46th, he is now outside the top 50 and that was down to his inability to defend his points from his previous Dallas Open showing.
A runner-up at that tournament last year, Giron opted not to feature in it and while he followed that up with a quarterfinal in Delray Beach and Acapulco, that wasn’t enough.
Earlier this season, however, Giron did win a couple of rounds at both, the Adelaide International and the Australian Open.
Wins over Denis Shapovalov and Tomas Martin Etcheverry at those two would have given him the confidence moving forward.
Now as he looks to better his last year’s first round exit in Indian Wells, Giron would look at those results and hope to build on them.

Basilashvili Had Made Montpellier Quarterfinal
Nikoloz Basilashvili had had a lot going against him off the court and that could be seen affecting his on-court performances with the Georgian player falling outside the top 500 on the ATP Rankings.
He has slowly, but steadily come back, having ended the 2024 season just outside the top 200 and then making the Montpellier Open this year and getting close to the top 150. Having earlier entered the quarterfinal of the Oeiras Challenger he came through the qualifiers before beating Mikhail Kukushkin and Arthur Rinderknech in the Montpellier main draw.
And while that helped his ranking it wasn’t enough for him to enter the main draw here directly.
In the qualifiers, he overcame Christopher Eubanks and Yasutaka Uchiyama and sealed his spot in the first round here. Things were get tougher now but 2021 finalist looks like he is regaining his confidence.
