Alex de Minaur’s only loss this year has come to Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open. On either side of that defeat, he has won a total of eight matches and dropped just one set!
That’s the kind of record that most players would be proud of in a generation that has the likes of Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
The latest of those eight wins came against David Goffin, whom de Minaur defeated 6-2, 6-4 to claim a place in the second round of a competition he has made the final of last year.
De Minaur was on court for an hour and 37 minutes and at no point in the match looked like he was going to be tested. He broke Goffin in the very first game and consolidated that with another one in the fifth.
In the second set, the Aussie had three chances to break in the third game before finally managing to do that in the seventh before sealing things off.
Things could get slightly more difficult here but de Minaur looks well prepared.

Mensik Brushes Bublik Away
Jakub Mensik had gone into his first round match here as a 9/20 favourite to claim a win over Alexander Bublik and he did just that in straight sets.
Having entered the tournament on the back of a third round appearance at the Australian Open where he was shocked by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Mensik needed just an hour to win 6-4, 6-4.
It was Menik’s solid first serving that helped him out, with the Czech player claiming 88% of those points.
While Bublik also won 84% of his own first serves, Mensik lost just seven points on his second serve as opposed to the 16 that his opponent lost.
