Osaka Returns after Australian Open Injury
Naomi Osaka has featured in two tournaments this season and there have been two common aspects for her in both.
For one, Osaka looked to be in some excellent touch at both and secondly, she was forced to retire from the competitions in the middle of the matches.
At the Auckland Open, Osaka had reached the final where she had won the first set against Clara Tauson before having to opt out. She followed this up with an appearance at the season’s first major in Melbourne and reached the third round.
There she was up against Belinda Bencic, who had won the opening set in a tie-breaker before having to retire with an injury.
Both times it has been a troublesome abdominal muscle that has caused her issues.
Osaka used the Las Vegas Exhibition competition on Sunday to warm up for this event, losing in straight sets to Aryna Sabalenka but showing she was fit enough to play.

Osorio Has Featured in Only Three Tournaments This Year
Camila Osorio looked to have made a decent start to the season when she won a round at the Hobart International and then another one at the Australian Open.
Her wins against Yue Yuan and Maria Sakkari would have given her the confidence despite the following defeats to Veronika Kudermetova and Ons Jabeur at those tournaments.
She took that confidence to the Singapore Open where she won a couple of rounds to make the quarterfinals before losing to Elise Mertens.
Since then, however, Osorio hasn’t played any tennis and will enter this tournament in a slightly undercooked fashion.
The good news for Osorio is she gets a direct entry into Indian Wells Open this year unlike the last season in which she was forced to feature in the qualifiers where she lost.
