Emma Navarro v Ons Jabeur Head to Head
Jabeur beat Navarro in their only previous meeting which came at the 2022 Charleston Open.
Navarro Scrapes Past Wang
For the second match in a row, Emma Navarro was pushed into the third set but fortunately for her, she found a way to get past her opponent and make it to the third round.
This will be Navarro’s second successive appearance in the round of 32 at this competition having lost to Dayana Yastremska last year.
This year, she was involved in a hard duel in her opener against fellow American Peyton Stearns but that was somewhat on expected lines given her opponent’s pedigree. What was surprising was to see Navarro’s level fall off at different points during her second round match too.
In the end, Navarro defeated Xiyu Wang 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 but not before she was on court for two hours and 13 minutes and was down 2-4 in the final set. From that point onward, she won four games in a row to clinch her place in the third round.
She now faces a tough challenge in the form of the two-time Wimbledon runner-up.
Jabeur Eases Past Osorio
After back to back second round losses in this tournament over the past two seasons, Ons Jabeur finally found a way to get going and found herself in the third round.
Jabeur, who had earlier quelled the Anhelina Kalinina challenge in the first round, ended Camila Osorio’s run in straight sets as well to progress in the competition. Needing to be on court for an hour and 27 minutes, Jabeur won 7-5, 6-3.
The Tunisian number one took an early lead in the first set but despite failing to serve out the set at 5-4, she came back to break Osorio again at 5-6.
They exchanged four breaks of serves to kick-start the second set before Jabeur forged ahead with a third in as many games and took a 4-2 lead. She dropped just one more point on serve over the next two games to clinch the win.
Navarro v Jabeur Prediction
While Navarro is a favourite on paper, she is only just ahead at 4/5 and hasn’t really had the kind of match where her rhythm has been consistently around with her. Even before the start of the competition she was 1-2 on win-loss for the year, having played in Adelaide and Brisbane. Jabeur might have a chance here.
Navarro v Jabeur Tips
