Maria Sakkari v Viktoriya Tomova Head to Head
Following their meeting on the ITF circuit way back in 2016 which Tomova had won, they have faced off four more times on the circuit and Sakkari has clinched them all. The last of these meetings came in Linz earlier this year.

Maria Sakkari has made the final of the Indian Wells Open on two occasions, in 2022 and 2024. She enters the 2025 edition with probably a far lower goal than that – a win or two for starters.
Because that’s how Sakkari’s season has gone, and the former world number three as a result runs the risk of plumetting a few places further down than her current 29th rank.
Sakkari has featured in seven tournaments this year, losing nine matches including twice in the United Cup and twice in Adelaide where she made the main draw as a lucky loser.
Some of her defeats have come at the hands of Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Emma Raducanu and Zeynep Sonmez, players whom she would have brushed aside in her prime.
Sakkari also enters this tournament on the back of three successive defeats and will hope to turn things around as she takes on a player she has defeated multiple times before this.

Tomova Stuns Danilovic
Olga Danilovic has been in some sort of form throughout this season and facing an off-colour Viktoriya Tomova, she was a 2/5 favourite in their opener.
Tomova, who had won just three matches all season and failed to even qualify for the WTA Dubai two weeks ago, came off a stunning performance to win 6-2, 6-3 against her Serbian opponent.
In a match lasting an hour and 38 minutes, Tomova earned herself 16 break-points as Danilovic struggled to get her serving radar right. She broke her opponent five times and coasted to an easy win.
This will now be her second attempt at the second round of this tournament, having also made it through last year but can she usurp a struggling Sakkari in this encounter despite their one-sided head to head?
