Ekaterina Alexandrova v Polina Kudermetova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in Seoul last year and Kudermetova had shocked Alexandrova in that match.
Alexandrova Has Had a Solid Season
Ekaterina Alexandrova had begun the season ranked 28th in the world and a tad over two months into the season, she is 19th on the WTA charts, four away from her career-best.
This change has been brought about despite a slow start to the season for Alexandrova who lost her opener in Brisbane and at the Australian Open while winning just a round in Adelaide.
The Russian went on a winning rampage after that as she went on to clinch the title in Linz and then grabbed four more matches in a row – to make it eight successive wins – to make the semifinals in Doha.
It was her performance in Doha which would have been music to the ears having beaten Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula and Elise Mertens on her way.
Interestingly, Alexandrova is coming off a first round loss in Dubai at the hands of Polina’s sister Veronika.

Kudermetova Eases Past Liu
Polina Kudermetova was ranked 182nd in the world at the start of the 2024 season. She ended the year just outside the top 100 and come March this year, she has already broken into the top 60.
And having never featured in the Indian Wells Open before this, Polina can be expected to garner a few points with this second round appearance too to further better her ranking.
Her success this year has been restricted to her performance in Brisbane but that was some showing from her at that tournament. Starting out as a qualifier, Kudermetova defeated the likes of Liudmilla Samsonova, Daria Kasatkina, Ashlyn Krueger and Anhelina Kalinina to make the final.
While Kudermetova hadn’t won a main draw match over the next four tournaments, she started things off with a bang here, crushing Claire Liu 6-4, 6-2 to enter round two.
Things could get a lot tougher here now.
