Karolina Muchova v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head
These two have played each other twice at the highest level and it’s 1-1 on head to head. The first match came at the 2019 WTA Moscow where Muchova won in straight sets before Alexandrova levelled things out in 2021 at the Stuttgart Open.
Muchova Edges Out Potapova
Karolina Muchova is still looking to get back her full rhythm, the kind that had seen her break into the top 10 and become the world number eight in 2023. However, for now, she will be just relieved she is through to the semifinal with a scrappy win over Anastasia Potapova in the previous round.
Having earned a first round bye as the top seed and then beaten Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second round in straight sets, Muchova looked to be living up to her 1/5 odds against Potapova when she broke her opponent once and clinched the opening set.
Potapova retaliated with a break of her own in the second set, which, again proved to be the sole service break of the set and that was enough for her to level the match.
It took Muchova a break of serve in the fourth game of the decider and then to say three break-points as she served for the match before she came through.
A win here will take Muchova to her first final since the China Open last year.

Alexandrova in Tough Win over Martic
Ekaterina Alexandrova has had a very similar path as Muchova to her semifinals.
After having earned a first round bye and having disposed off Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets in the second, Alexandrova found the going quite tough in her quarterfinal against Petra Martic.
And much like was the case for Muchova, she was taken to three sets by her Croatian opponent.
Martic drew first blood by breaking the Alexandrova serve and wrapping up the first set on the basis of that but once Alexandrova found a way to come back into the match there was no stopping her.
She broke Martic twice in the second set before repeating the same dose in the decider to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
This follows opening losses at the Brisbane International and Australian Open and a second round ouster from the Adelaide International for the Russian.

At her best, we would have backed Muchova to ease to a win here but given how things have been, this could go either way and that’s also why those odds of 21/10 for an Alexandrova win look enticing.
