The Transylvania Open 2025 action begins on Monday, February 3 with Caroline Dolehide and Sorana Cirstea among those taking to court today. Here’s the preview, predictions and tips for these matches from Transylvania.

Caroline Dolehide v Daria Snigur Preview

Head-to-Head: Dolehide and Snigur will facing off for the first time.

Caroline Dolehide enters this tournament on the back of two tournaments played and with just one win under her belt.

The former world number 42 did not feature in any tune-up competitions in the lead-up to the Australian Open at any level and yet, kick-started the season with a first round win there. Dolehide defeated Sara Bejlek in her opener.

However, Elina Svitolina cruised to an easy win over her in the second round before Dolehide was ousted by Anna Kalinskaya in the WTA Singapore opener.

While one cannot quite say that Smigur’s form is much better than Dolehide’s, she has definitely spent more time on court in competitive matches.

This has been thanks to her appearances in the qualifiers at both, the Australian Open and now here in this tournament.

And on both occasions, Snigur has managed to win all those rounds (five in all) to make the main draw. She lost to Danielle Collins at the Australian Open but starts a favourite here.

Dolehide v Snigur prediction: Snigur to win: 4/6

Sorana Cirstea v Marina Stakusic Preview

Head-to-Head: This is the first meeting between Cirstea and Stakusic.

Sorana Cirstea was once ranked 21st in the world but look at her performances since the start of the 2024 season and it barely looks like she is close to her best.

This issue has continued in 2025 as well with Cirstea having featured in three tournaments so far and won just one main draw round so far.

She was sent packing in the Adelaide qualifiers by Jule Niemeier, then lost to Elina Svitolina at the Australian Open before finally winning a round last week in Linz. Even that was a scrappy three-setter victory against Arantxa Rus before she went down to Clara Tauson in straight sets.

Fortunately she has a chance to get going here as she takes on a player ranked 119th in the world – with Marina Stakusic having never been a top 100 player in the world.

The 20-year-old needed to make it through the qualifiers to get to the main draw and she did that in straight sets.

A winner of a WTA 125 title last year, Stakusic has shown she is quite capable and now up against a struggling Cirstea, she will have a good chance to add to that victory count.

Cirstea v Stakusic prediction: Stakusic to win: 19/20

Mayar Sherif v Viktoriya Tomova Preview

Head-to-Head: Their only previous meeting came on the clay courts of the Charleston Open last year and surprise, surprise, it was Tomova who won the encounter.

Mayar Sherif’s struggles have continued in the 2025 and while some of it is do with the fact that she has been playing on surfaces which aren’t to her liking, it could also be a case of being unable to follow up career-best season with another consistent one.

That’s where most players struggle and fall away and Sherif will need to safeguard against it as she enters this tournament on the back of a 0-3 win-loss record for the year.

Making matters worst is the fact that Sherif hasn’t won a set so far, even falling to the 139th Antonia Ruzic in the first round of the Linz Open last week.

Till Viktoriya Tomova entered the Linz Open, things hadn’t been going too well for her either. She had featured in Brisbane, Hobart and the Australian Open and lost in the first round at each one of them.

It was only in Linz that Tomova finally managed to clinch her first win, defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in her opener but then went on to lose in the second to Maria Sakkari.

All in that, this points towards two players off colour and but the one thing that separates them is the fact that Tomova has a better record in hardcourt competitions than Sherif.

Sherif v Tomova prediction: Tomova to win: 3/5

Suzan Lamens v Anna Bondar Preview

Head-to-Head: Their only previous meeting came on the hardcourt surface of Hong Kong last year and Lamens had won that encounter in three sets.

A title winner at the WTA Osaka last year, Suzan Lamens is slowly but surely climbing up the WTA ladder. She has already hit a career-best ranking of 67th in the world and enters this tournament with no points to defend from last year.

Lamens had earlier in the season also dished out her best showing at a major by making the second round at the Australian Open. Before that, she had never even made the final round of qualifying in any Grand Slam.

And a third round appearance at the Brisbane International to kick-start the season had seen Lamens win against Kamilla Rakhimova and Magdalena Frech.

She Hungarian qualifier Anna Bondar, who might have fallen to 94th in the world at the moment but is showing some signs of resurrection this year.

Sure there have been opening round losses at the Canberra ITF tournament, Australian Open and the qualifiers of the Linz Open but to go with that, Lamens made the second round in Hobart and has qualified for this tournament too.

Lamens will still be the favourite though.

Lamens v Bondar prediction: Lamens to win: 7/10
