Arthur Fils v Constant Lestienne Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit with Lestienne winning that 2022 encounter in straight sets.
Fils at Career-Best Ranking
Arthur Fils had broken into the top 20 on the ATP Rankings late last year. A month or so on, he has improved to 19th in the world after making it to the third round at the Australian Open.
Having won two ATP titles in 2024, Fils would be the first to put his hand up and admit he could have done better than what he has this year.
In his season opener, Fils made the quarterfinal but lost to Alexandre Muller despite being the 3/10 favourite there. And then there was that Australian Open exit which came at the hands of fellow Frenchman Ugo Humbert when Fils retired from the match because of the strapping on his feet.
Interestingly, Fils was also involved in a controversial Davis Cup match over the last weekend while representing France against Brazil. He won it against Thiago Seyboth Wild but not before his opponent gave him a hard handshake at the end of the encounter.

Lestienne Comes Through the Qualifiers
It took Constant Lestienne two, hard-fought wins in the qualifiers to come through and make it to the main draw.
Lestienne edged past Ryan Nijboer in two tie-breakers before needing another tie-breaker against Daniel Altmaier to take his place in the first round of this tournament.
This will be Lestienne’s second ATP tournament of the season after having made the main draw at Montpellier as well while falling in the first qualifying round at the Australian Open.
At Montpellier, he had overcome Benoit Paire and Terence Altmane to enter the main draw before beating Borna Coric in his opener. Can he do the same to Fils in this opener?
Fils v Lestienne Prediction
Arthur Fils should not have a lot of trouble here given his form and his win in the Davis Cup spoke volumes about his fitness as well. Expecting him to come through in two here.
