Stakusic Wins a Main Draw Match after a While
Marina Stakusic had last won a main draw match in a WTA tournament in September 2024 when she had shocked Jelena Ostapenko on her way to the quarterfinals at the Guadalajara Open.
Since then, Stakusic had tried her hand at a few but failed to get past either the qualifiers or the first round in the main draw, only winning at the lower WTA 125 circuit.
The good news for her was the fact that she was showing signs of improved showing every time she took to court. For instance in the WTA 125 competition in Tampico, Stakusic made it through the qualifiers before going all the way to win the title.
This year, however, Stakusic hadn’t made a great start with a second round loss in an ITF competition and a first qualifying round defeat at the Australian Open.
Needing to make it through the qualifiers here, she did so without losing a set and then edged past Sorana Cirstea in three sets to complete her first win since that Ostapenko victory.

Lucky Loser Sasnovich Makes Comeback Win
After losing to Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second qualifying round here, Aliasandra Sasnovich qualified for the main draw as a lucky loser.
But even that extra time in the competition seemed to be coming to an early close when Sasnovich was blanked 7-0 in the first set tie-breaker by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and then faced five match-points in the second set.
Sasnovich saved all five of them before breaking her opponent in the very next game and served out the set to take the match into a decider.
She fell 0-2 yet again in the final set but then clawed back with a break of serve in the third and ninth game respectively to clinch a victory.
