After making an excellent start to the season by entering the semifinal at the Brisbane International, Anhelina Kalinina looked to have fallen away a little as she lost three in a row.

Lamens in a Gritty Win over Bondar
Suzan Lamens had gone into her opening round match against Anna Bondar as an 8/11 favourite. And while she won, the match could have easily gone the other ways with some luck.
In a match lasting two hours and nine minutes, Lamens saved two set-points, frittered away four match-points and needed two tie-breakers to come through with a win.
The second set of her encounter was especially quite topsy-turvy with Lamens falling 3-1 down, then served for the match at 5-3, before breaking Bondar when she served for the set at 6-5.
In the tie-breaker that followed, Lamens went 6-2 ahead, only to lose four points in a row. And when it looked like Bondar had made a comeback, Lamens won the next two points to grab the win.
