Carlos Alcaraz v Andrea Vavassori Head to Head
There has been one previous meeting between these two which came in the 2024 Buenos Aires Open. Alcaraz had won that in straight sets.
Alcaraz Stretched by van de Zandschulp
Carlos Alcaraz had entered his first round match here as an overwhelming 1/16 favourite to overcome local player Botic van de Zandschulp.
In the end, he made it past van de Zandschulp but not before he was forced on court for two hours and 35 minutes and was taken to three sets.
Van de Zandschulp was up a break on two occasions in the first set with Alcaraz even having to save a set-point before he overturned that and won it in the tie-breaker.
In the second, Alcaraz lost his serve yet again but this time around he wasn’t able to break back with his opponent levelling things out.
It was only in the decider that the Australian Open quarterfinalist managed to take control of the encounter, winning it 6-1.
Alcaraz will be hoping to have a much more straightforward encounter next.

Vavassori Aided by Auger-Aliassime Injury
Andrea Vavassori has never been ranked in the top 100 of the ATP charts and had come into the tournament having fallen to outside of the top 300.
In fact Vavassori hadn’t played in a single competition this year before entering the Rotterdam Open qualifiers and that he won them both to make the main draw was a surprise.
He was a 6/1 underdog going into his opener against Felix Auger-Aliassime for obvious reasons – Auger-Aliassime has already won a couple of titles this season.
Vavassori looked to have done well to test Auger-Aliassime, taking a set off him too but before the match could reach its conclusion, the Canadian retired from the encounter. Later he would reveal he had been battling a toe problem since Tuesday and that became a problem during the encounter too.
One way or the other, it just means that Vavassori has a chance to take on the world number three in the second round – an experience by itself.
Alcaraz v Vavassori Prediction
This should be a piece of cake for Alcaraz and we expect a straight-set win for him. The better option would be to go with the games market – we think one of the sets could get longer than Alcaraz’s expectations.
Alcaraz v Vavassori Tips
- Alcaraz to win in straight sets: 1/5
- Over 16.5 games in the match: 1/2
