Anna Kalinskaya v Cristina Bucsa Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players, at the 2024 Adelaide International qualifiers and the WTA Dubai that followed soon after that. Kalinskaya had won them both without dropping a set.
Kalinskaya in Search for Full Fitness
Life hasn’t been too kind to Anna Kalinskaya this season and her fitness has come under a lot of scrutiny.
Kalinskaya who broke into the top 20 for the first time in the 2024 season, began the season with an opening loss at the hands of Ashlyn Krueger at Brisbane.
She was forced to retire from her Adelaide contest against Belinda Bencic and then some kind of illness forced Kalinskaya to pull out of the Australian Open as well.
Two weeks later she returned to feature in Linz and looked to have done well to clinch the semifinal spot. She too on Ann Li in that encounter and was down a set when she retired from the match again – this time to a different issue.
Overall she is 3-3 for the season and for a world number 18 she has a poor record to start things off this year. Kalinskaya is looking for a turnaround here.

Bucsa Hoping for More Consistency
Having fallen from her career-best ranking of 56th to her current 98th on the WTA charts, Cristina Bucsa would hope to turn things around and remain in the top 100 for a little longer. And for that, she needs to start winning matches regularly.
Bucsa would be relieved, stemming from her qualifier wins over Ulrikke Eikeri and Laura Siegemund but she would know she needs to do a lot better what she has done this season.
Sure she has had first round wins over Chloe Paquet at the Australian Open and Emma Raducanu in Singapore, her performances in the rest of the season have fallen away.
So much so that Bucsa failed to make it through to the main draw at the Abu Dhabi Open last year.
She faces a struggling Kalinskaya and therein might lie her chance.
Kalinskaya v Bucsa Prediction
Kalinskaya will hope to exhibit full fitness, so in a way winning a three-setter could be a way to prove that. We expect that result too because of the kind of fight that Bucsa can show and also given question-marks around Kalinskaya’s fitness.
Kalinskaya v Bucsa Tips
- Kalinskaya to win: 1/3
- Three sets in the match: 6/4
