Navarro v Fernandez Head to Head
They have played each other three times before this and Fernandez leads 2-1. All their three matches came in 2023 including one in the qualifiers of the Cincinnati Open that year which Navarro had won.
Navarro Returns after Australian Open Sparkle
Despite having made an underwhelming start to the season, Emma Navarro returned strongly at the Australian Open to remind fans why she is a top 10 player right now
Navarro had lost to Kimberly Birrell and Liudmilla Samsonova and won just one round over two tournaments at the start of 2025.
But following this, she overcame fellow American Peyton Stearns in a fighting opener at the season’s first major, and then followed that up with three more three-set wins to reach the quarterfinals.
It took the might of Iga Swiatek to end Navarro’s campaign but she looked to have done reasonably well all around.

Fernandez Eases Past Minnen
Leylah Fernandez has been another of the players who has shown signs of sparkle this year. She has been more consistent than she has been in the recent seasons having made the third round at the Australian Open and the quarterfinal in Abu Dhabi.
And the manner in which begun her campaign here against Greet Minnen, it would behoove her opponent not to take her lightly.
In a match lasting an hour and 20 minutes, Fernandez scythed through Minnen, winning 6-1, 6-2. Both players faced five break-points in the encounter and while Fernandez saved all of them, she managed to get the better of her opponent’s serve every single time.
The quality of her opposition will obviously increase a lot now that she will be up against Navarro but as far as confidence goes, Fernandez will come in with oodles of it.
Navarro v Fernandez Prediction
Navarro’s fighting capabilities were on show at the Australian Open when, despite not being at her best, she made it through to the quarterfinals with four successive three-set wins. Backing her to use those qualities here again and come through with a win.
Navarro v Fernandez Tips
- Navarro to win: 4/5
