Iga Swiatek v Maria Sakkari Head to Head
There have been six previous meetings between these two players and surprisingly, both players have won three apiece. Sakkari won the first three, including the 2021 French Open while Swiatek has come back to win the last three with their latest match having come at the 2024 Indian Wells Open.
Swiatek Returns after Australian Open Semis
Iga Swiatek first played in this tournament in 2020 and after giving it a miss the following year, she featured here again over the last three seasons.
The world number two has won each of those three editions having beaten Annet Kontaveit, Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina in the final.
The three-time defending has a tougher task this time with an in-form Aryna Sabalenka and Cori Gauff in the draw as well, breathing down her neck.
Swiatek has already lost to Gauff once this year and is coming off a semifinal defeat at the Australian Open to Madison Keys. Can she improve her track record against Sakkari here and kick-start things off with a confident performance?

Sakkari in a Tough Battle with Ruse
Maria Sakkari had come into this tournament having won just three matches to go with six defeats this year.
That included a first round exit at the Australian Open and for a moment, it looked like she was on her way out of this in her opener too.
Taking on Elena-Gabriela Ruse, Sakkari was down a set and it needed her two hours and five minutes to turn things around by first levelling the score and then going 4-0 up in the final set.
It was at this point Ruse opted to retire from the match because of fitness concerns and Sakkari had made it to the second round of this tournament for the sixth time in a row.
Last year too, the two-time semifinalist had gotten knocked out of the Qatar Open in round two and now faces a struggle to overturn that record.

This should be a bit of a cakewalk for Swiatek who can be expected to win this in straight sets.
Swiatek v Sakkari Tips
