Magda Linette v Magdalena Frech Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players, both on clay and they are 1-1 on head to head. Linette had beaten Frech in the final of the 2024 Prague Open.
Struggling Linette Manages to Send Kudermetova Out
Magda Linette had entered this tournament on the back of just three wins from seven matches this season and while Veronika Kudermetova had had her own issues, the Russian had gone into their opener as a 1/2 favourite to win it.
The Polish number three stumbled away in the first set, losing her serve in the eight game and the set thereafter.
Not too many expected what would follow though. Linette went on a serve-breaking spree after that, getting the better of Kudermetova’s serve on a whopping five occasions to find herself in the second round after two hours and 17 minutes.
Linette won 3-6, 6-0, 6-4, sealing a first round win for the third time this season. She will now hope to surmount her best showing at this competition which has come in 2022 and 2024 when the Pole had lost in the second round.

Frech Shocks Haddad Maia
Beatriz Haddad Maia was a favourite heading into her opener against Magdalena Frech. It was no surprise given that in three of the four tournaments that Frech had played this season, she had lost her opener with only two wins coming at the Australian Open.
Frech fell 0-3 down in the opening set but came back strongly to break Haddad Maia twice to scoop up the opening set.
A string of breaks in the second set ended with the Brazilian player holding on to her serve in the ninth game and with that came the decider.
This time around, Frech did not have too much trouble as she broke early in the third and managed to hold on to her service through to the end of the set where she broke again to clinch a 6-4. 3-6, 6-2 victory in two hours and 40 minutes.
It leads her to the second round where an interesting battle with a fellow countrywoman awaits.
Linette v Frech Prediction
Frech is 4/5 to win this, just marginally ahead but it’s tough to pick a winner given neither player has done much of note this season. We might still go with Frech though given that Linette has generally shown signs of decline after having hit a peak in 2023-24.
Linette v Frech Tips
- Frech to win: 4/5
- Three sets in the match: 6/5
