Elena Rybakina v Peyton Stearns Head to Head
Rybakina and Stearns have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Rybakina Hoping to Kick-Start a Deep Run
Elena Rybakina has featured in three tournaments this season and in both has done enough to raise the hopes of another title win but has then fallen short.
She took Kazakhstan to the semifinal of the United Cup before losing to Iga Swiatek, made the fourth round of the Australian Open before Madison Keys ended her campaign and then at the Abu Dhabi Open last was a semifinalist before Belinda Bencic overcame her in that match.
The world number six looked to be in a good position to nudge past Bencic in that encounter having grabbed the opening set but the Swiss player overcame the early setback to clinch it in three.
Rybakina is coming into this tournament with four successive three-setters under her belt – a sign of her inability to be at the top of her game. She has had a decent amount of court-time too, ruling out rustiness.

Stearns Shocks Yastremska
Peyton Stearns was 11/10 coming into her opening round match against Dayana Yastremska but played some excellent tennis to ease through to the second round in straight sets.
Having won just two main draw matches before the start of this tournament, Stearns needed an hour and 34 minutes in an encounter that saw a total of 20 break-points on offer.
While Stearns dropped her serve three times, she was able to get the better of her opponent’s serve on six occasions and clinched a 7-5, 6-3 win.
This victory will give Stearns some relief after the kind of season she has had – she was 2-4 in main draw results before this with no third round appearances in any of the four tournaments she had played.
Adding to that will be the fact that she has already bettered her performance in this tournament from the previous season where Stearns had been knocked out by Elise Mertens in the first round.
Rybakina v Stearns Prediction
Rybakina might not be in the best of form but she should have enough fuel in the tank to take down Stearns who has had her own issues this season. Expecting a straight-set win for the Kazakh.
