She got the better of Gauff’s serve on four occasions with the American serving up seven double faults as well – none more vital than what happened at 5-6 in the second set.

Linette Wins All-Polish Battle
Magda Linette’s form coming into her second round match against fellow countrywoman Magdalena Frech wasn’t anything to write about – she had won just three of the seven matches she had played all season.
Having endured losses to Moyuka Uchijima, Maya Joint and McCartney Kessler, Linette would have been feeling the pressure.
The good news for Linette was she held up her end in the fight, making her opponent work for every point. Frech had a chance to serve out the first set at 5-4 but Linette broke her twice to win it.
Linette then went 2-0 up in the second but Frech reacted swiftly to turn it back to 2-2 before breaking her opponent at 5-5 and serving it out.
In the final set, Linette went a break up, dropped her serve the very next game and then clinched it by breaking Frech at 4-5.

These are two players who had come into the tournament without any sort of form – Kostyuk was 2-3 and Linette 3-4 this season before this tournament. And both have managed to come through in fine fashion.
