Marta Kostyuk v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Kostyuk has won them both – at the 2019 Madrid Open and the 2023 Australian Open. Kostyuk also progressed to the next stage in Wuhan last year when Anisimova withdrew from that second round match.
Kostyuk Routs Linette
Marta Kostyuk hadn’t had a great start to the season by any stretch, losing successive matches in Brisbane and Adelaide without winning one. Making matters worse was the fact those losses came at the hands of Yue Yuan and Ashlyn Krueger – tough challengers but really not yet top 20 players.
Which is why her turnaround at the Australian Open in which Kostyuk made the third round made for interesting viewing. She did go down to Paula Badosa there but even that loss came in a fighting encounter.
That confidence looks to have rubbed off in this tournament with Kostyuk winning three successive matches in straight sets to make the quarterfinals.
With a best performance in Doha of a second round exit last year, Kostyuk had already taken out Cori Gauff in the second round. She followed that up with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Magda Linette to seal her spot in the last eight.

Anisimova Breezes Past Fernandez
At the start of the match, there wasn’t much to choose between Amanda Anisimova and Leylah Fernandez but by the time the match had ended, the gulf between the two players during the match was as stark as it could.
Anisimova was on court for a mere 65 minutes to win her third match in a row in the tournament in straight sets. And in doing so, she had progressed to the quarterfinal of this event for the first time in her career.
Facing just two break-points in the entire match, Anisimova saved them both but at the same time got the better of Fernandez’s serve on four occasions. While the Canadian player hung on in the opening set, she was completed decimated in the second, with Anisimova going on to win 6-3, 6-0.
This followed victories over Victoria Azarenka and Paula Badosa for Anisimova in the previous two rounds.
Kostyuk v Anisimova Prediction
Here’re two players who have surprised most of those watching and following by not just setting up a date for a quarterfinal meeting but also thanks to the manner in which they have done this. It’s a pity that one of them will be knocked out but we think it wouldn’t be without a fight.
