Tommy Paul v Marcos Giron Head to Head
There have been three matches between them at the highest level and Paul leads 2-1. This includes a win at the Dallas Open final last year for Paul and another in the round of 16 at the Canadian Open.
Giron had beaten Paul at the 2021 Miami Masters.
Paul Eases Past Diallo
Things went to script when Tommy Paul took to court for his first round match against Canada’s Gabriel Daillo.
Paul, who was 1/3 favourite, wasted no time in dispatching Diallo 6-2, 6-2 to make it to the second round for the fourth time this season. He has won his openers in each of the tournaments he’s played in, at Adelaide, Australian Open and Dallas.
A quarterfinalist at the Australian Open and having made the semifinal in Dallas two weeks ago, Paul was on court for 75 minutes only as he completed his facile victory.
Paul faced five break-points in the encounter but saved all of them even has he broke his opponent twice in each of the two sets. A finalist here in 2023, Paul will now be gunning for his fourth successive quarterfinal appearance for the season.

Giron Tames Walton in Opener
While Marcos Giron did not have it as easy as Paul, he still managed to find a way to get past Adam Walton in straight sets in his first round encounter.
Having had a solid start to the season with a quarterfinal appearance at the Adelaide International and a third round entry at the Australian Open, Giron won 7-6 (4), 6-2 to seal his second round berth alongside Paul.
Giron was on court for an hour and 36 minutes but was never really in trouble despite being unable to break his opponent in the opening set.
Once he had pocketed that in a tie-breaker, Giron came back strongly to get the better of Walton’s serve on three occasions in the second set and eased through to the next stage.
Paul v Giron Prediction
Paul starts a 9/25 favourite to clinch a win here and unless something drastically goes wrong that seems to be par for the course for this. Might even do that in straight sets.
Paul v Giron Tips
- Paul to win: 9/25
- Paul to win in straight sets: 4/5
