Felix Auger-Aliassime was involved in a battle for survival in his second round match against Nuno Borges and it took him a break in the 11th game of the final set, two hours and 20 minutes into the encounter to clinch the win.
The Canadian, who was coming off a hard-fought, three-set win over Alexander Bublik in the first round as well, lost his serve in the fifth game of the opening set. Borges capitalised by running through with his own serves to grab the set.
The second set saw Borges attempt a comeback when he broke back in the fifth game only to drop his serve in the very next game and this time it was Auger-Aliassime’s turn to clinch the set.
In the decider, the Adelaide and Montpellier title winner found it tough to find a breakthrough even though he had six break-points. It was only at 5-5 that Auger-Aliassime converted his seventh of the set before serving it out.

Cilic Continues Comeback with Popyrin Win
Marin Cilic had made a comeback to the circuit in Doha after being out with most part of the previous season and having to delay his return this year.
He had lost in a fighting match to Carlos Alcaraz there but has come roaring back in Dubai with back to back fighting wins to take him to the quarterfinals.
The Croat had shocked Alex de Minaur in a three-setter in the first round before clinching a comeback-from-behind win over another Aussie, Alexei Popyrin in the second.
In a match lasting two hours and 14 minutes, Cilic came back from the loss of the first set to register a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory that took him to his first quarterfinal since Hangzhou last year.
