Denis Shapovalov v Marcos Giron Preview
Head-to-Head: The 32nd-ranked Shapovalov and Giron, who is ranked 52nd in the world, have met twice in their careers before this. Giron has won them both, at the 2024 Houston Open and 2025 Adelaide Open.
Denis Shapovalov continues his excellent run at this level and it looks to have come out of nowhere.
Having begun the season with just two victories from three tournaments, Shapovalov shocked the world when he won the Dallas Open title two weeks ago and has added two more wins in this tournament.
In the first round here, Shapovalov had managed to make it past Nishesh Basavareddy and he then overcame Alex Michelsen in the second round 6-4, 6-3 to seal his quarterfinal berth.
That was also his fifth successive straight-set win, such has been the Canadian’s form.
He will be up against Marcos Giron who benefitted from the withdrawal of fellow American Tommy Paul. Paul was one of the few players who suffered from some illness causing him to forfeit his match, leaving Giron through to the last eight for the second time this season – he had earlier made the quarterfinal in Adelaide.
Shapovalov’s form is too tempting to ignore but there’s always that time where the streak will break and we cans see that happen here at the hands of Giron who has beaten him in the past.
Shapovalov v Giron prediction: Giron to win: 9/5

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Rodrigo Pacheco Méndez Preview
Head-to-Head: Fokina and Mendez have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has looked to be in some good rhythm all season, right from the time he made the fourth round at the Australian Open to when he ended as the losing finalist at the Delray Beach Open over a week ago.
And while he tested in the first round here by Mattia Bellucci, Fokina found a way to come through after losing the first set.
In the second round against Frances Tiafoe, Fokina frittered a match-point away in the second set before clinching his spot in the quarterfinal by winning the third with a break of serve in the sixth game.
Fokina had three more match-point opportunities he missed before making it through off the next.
He will now face the 356th-ranked and wildcard entrant Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez in the quarterfinal.
Pacheco Mendez had stunned Aleksandar Vukic in his opener despite starting out a 31/10 underdog in the first round while in the second, he became one of the those players who benefitted from the gamut of illnesses in the tournament.
It was Casper Ruud who withdrew from their second round match, leaving Pacheco Mendez sitting pretty with the biggest pay-cheque of his career and a ranking bump that will see him break into the top 250 even if he lost this.
Davidovich Fokina v Pacheco Méndez prediction: Fokina to win in straight sets: 1/2
