Francisco Cerundolo v Tomas Martin Etcheverry Head to Head
There have been four meetings on the Futures tour, two in Challengers and two others at the highest ATP level and the head to head reads 4-4.
Etcheverry has won both the ATP level matches, defeating him in Santiago in 2023 and the US Open last year.
Cerundolo Edges Past Hanfmann
Despite being a 1/3 favourite coming into the encounter against Yannick Hanfmann, Francisco Cerundolo almost did not make it to the quarterfinals.
And this was after he had won the first set and was a break up in the second!
Hanfmann came back and broke Cerundolo twice to clinch the second set and then came back from 0-2 down in the decider to take a 3-2 lead.
The set went into a tie-breaker in which Cerundolo finally managed to earn himself a match-point at 6-5 and he duly converted that to clinch the win.
Cerundolo had earlier earned himself a first round bye following a runner-up trophy at Buenos Aires and a quarterfinal exit at Rio.

Etcheverry in a Thumping Win over Garin
Tomas Martin Etcheverry might have fallen 16 places from his career-best ranking of 27th but the manner in which he has played in this tournament so far it wouldn’t be surprising to see him regain some of that lost ground.
After having dropped just five games in his first round win over Hugo Gaston, Etcheverry found a way to deliver a similar result against Cristian Garin. The Argentine won 6-2, 6-4 in a match that went on for an hour and 32 minutes.
The only time that Etcheverry’s serve was in trouble was when he had already won the first set and was two breaks up in the second – he got broken once but by then the match was all but over.
Etcheverry had begun the clay court series this year with an opening loss in Argentina and a second round defeat in Rio.
Cerundolo v Etcheverry Prediction
Interestingly, given their history and the way they have played so far in this tournament it’s no surprise that both enter this match at 10/11 odds to win this despite the difference in their ranking. Backing Etcheverry for the win here.
