McCartney Kessler v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head
Kessler and Cirstea have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Kessler in a Three-Set Win over Bucsa
McCartney Kessler was a 2/5 favourite going up against Cristina Bucsa but for a while it looked like her opponent was in with a great chance to win the match.
In the end, Kessler pulled all stops to grab the victory but not before she was taken to the third set tie-breaker.
The American edged past Bucsa 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (4) in two hours and 35 minutes to make the quarterfinals following an easy first round win over Viktorija Golubic.
A title winner at the Hobart International, Kessler fell in the first round of the following three tournaments before grabbing a third round spot in Dubai last week. She will be hoping to do one better than that here.

Cirstea Shocks Shnaider
Diana Shnaider’s form has been stunningly poor this season but that’s not to say that Sorana Cirstea was a favourite going into their second round encounter.
With odds of 8/5 against her name to win this match, Cirstea might have surprised a few people in fact with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory but not us – we had called this one out to be a three-set thriller.
That’s usually been the case with Cirstea who might struggle at times to win even one match but then gets on a roll and starts grabbing results.
So after just one main draw matches in the first four tournaments of the season, Cirstea has already made the quarterfinals in Dubai and is now in the last eight stage here.
She could prove to be a handful.
Kessler v Cirstea Prediction
While Kessler is a 4/6 favourite, we cannot keep Cirstea out of the discussion here and expect her to grab a surprise win here. Again.
Kessler v Cirstea Tips
- Cirstea to win: 11/10
