Jessica Pegula v McCartney Kessler Head to Head
Pegula and Kessler have never faced off before this.
Pegula Stretched but Comes Through against Tomljanovic
Jessica Pegula had had three fairly straightforward wins in this competition and when she grabbed the opening set of her semifinal against Ajla Tomljanovic with some ease it looked like the match was headed the same way.
Her Aussie opponent wasn’t done though as she came back to break Pegula twice in the second set. While Pegula got one of the breaks back, Tomljanovic ensured she clinched the set to level the proceedings.
In the third, they traded breaks in the first three games before Pegula got the better of Tomljanovic’s serve one final time in the fourth game. From that point onward, it was all about holding her serve and Pegula did that without facing any break-points.
Pegula will now be playing her first final since having made there at the US Open last year when she lost to Aryna Sabalenka. Can she now win her first WTA title since the Canadian Open last year?

Kessler Edges Out Minnen
McCartney Kessler lived up to her favourites odds as she took down Greet Minnen in straight sets to make it to the final.
In a match lasting an hour and 36 minutes, Kessler survived three breaks of serves and missed 13 break-point opportunities but still won 7-5, 6-4.
Kessler had a chance to serve out the first set at 5-4 but was broken. She broke right back and served out the set to love. In the second set, the two exchanged breaks of serves in the first four games before Kessler earned a decisive break in the ninth game off her fourth break-point in that game.
She served it out to 15 to claim her second final of the season.
The American had earlier won the title at the Hobart International in January and will be gunning for the third WTA title of her career.
