Jaume Munar v Kei Nishikori Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit where Munar won on clay.
In-Form Munar Hoping to Continue Winning
Jaume Munar opted to prepare for the Indian Wells Masters with an appearance on the clay courts of Rio late last month and managed to make it to the second round there before Jaime Faria got the better of him.
His reasoning might have to do with the fact that the Indian Wells courts are on the slower side and Rio is an ATP 500 events thereby helping him garner some extra ranking points as well.
Either ways, Munar got knocked out early after having made a stupendous start to the season.
The Spaniard made the semifinals at two of the hardcourt events he’s played this year, in Hong Kong and Dallas. In both these tournaments, Munar got the better of some star players like Lorenzo Musetti and Ben Shelton, thereby signalling the kind of form he is in.
He will now look to do better than his first round exit in Indian Wells last year.

Nishikori Hoping a Repeat of Hong Kong Form
Kei Nishikori hadn’t played a lot of tennis having come back from tennis in recent times but he kick-started the season off in fine style.
The former world number four shocked Denis Shapovalov, Karen Khachanov and Cameron Norrie on his way to the final of the Hong Kong Open where it took Alexandre Muller three sets to get past him.
Unfortunately for the Japanese player he hasn’t been able to reproduce that form again in the four tournaments he has played after that.
At the Australian Open, Nishikori defeated clay-court specialist Thiago Monteiro in the first round before losing the second. He then made it 1-1 in the Davis Cup but then went on to lose his openers at Dallas and Delray Beach.
A big turnaround is needed here.
Munar v Nishikori Predictions
While Munar’s form is one to behold especially when it comes to taking on players outside the top 50, Nishikori is no mug and has the experience to down some of the best in the world. We believe he has the tenacity to counter-punch Munar and even go on to win this.
Munar v Nishikori Tips
