Lauren Davis v Elina Avanesyan Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the qualifiers of the Cincinnati Open last year and Avanesyan had won that in straight sets.
Davis Fitness & Form Remains a Concern
Lauren Davis had climbed up to the 26th rank on the WTA charts at one stage in her career thanks to her excellent backhand and swiftness on court.
Those days, however, seem long gone with Davis having faced form and injury concerns in recent past. As a result of that, Davis has fallen to 234th at the moment and enters this tournament on a protected ranking system.
The 31-year-old hasn’t played a single main draw match at this level so far this season too.
She opted to feature on the ITF circuit to kick-start the season and Davis made the semifinal at Vero Beach. A second round appearance at the Cancun Open followed before Davis lost in the qualifiers at the Austin Open.
Davis has moved up a few spots since the start of the season but still needs a few wins under her belt to break into the top 100 again.

Avanesyan Coming off Merida Semifinal
Elina Avanesyan was 45th in the world at the start of the previous week when she took to court for her Merida Open campaign.
A solid display of tennis at that tournament, which consisted of wins over Magdalena Frech, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Maya Joint took Avanesyan to the semifinal where she finally lost to the world number 10 Emma Nvarro.
What that meant was that Avanesyan would have broken into the top 40 on the rankings chart for the first time in her career.
She had earlier made the semifinals of the Hobart International as well and at the Brisbane International, Avanesyan had defeated Paula Badosa on her way to the quarterfinals.
Can she pull off another sterling performance here?
