Belinda Bencic v Tatjana Maria Head to Head
Bencic leads Maria 2-0 on head to head with both those matches having come long ago – on the ITF circuit in 2013 and then in the 2015 Miami Open.
Bencic on a Roll after Comeback
Belinda Bencic might have lost in the second round at the WTA Dubai but she has had the kind of season so far she could have only dreamed about.
The Swiss player had taken a maternity break from tennis but since coming back in 2025 she has done exceedingly well. So much so that, having started off ranked 489th in the world, Bencic has worked her way now to 58th.
And this has been possible thanks to her performances at the Australian Open and the Abu Dhabi Open.
At the former, she defeated Jelena Ostapenko and Naomi Osaka on her way to the fourth round before lifting her first WTA title since the 2023 Abu Dhabi Open – again at Abu Dhabi itself.
Bencic’s title victory consisted of victories over Veronika Kudermetova, Marketa Vondrousova and Elena Rybakina, an indicator that she actually belongs in the top 20 of the rankings right now, if not top 10.
Her performances here – and in Miami – will go a long way in helping her get there again..

Maria Nibbling Away at the Odd Win
At her best, Tatjana Maria has made the semifinal at Wimbledon and won two clay and one grass court title in her career.
At the Indian Wells Open, however, she has been playing since 2007 and has made the second round just three times – including twice in a row in 2023 and 2024.
This year, Maria has a title win on the ITF circuit, clinching a competition in Bangalore but other than that, she has won just three main round matches.
Defeats to Xinyu Wang, Clara Tauson, Elise Mertens, Anna Blinkova and even the 230th-ranked Iryna Shymanovich makes for a slightly sad reading as Maria looks to start off with a solid performance here.
Bencic v Maria Predictions
It’s tough to see how Maria can find herself a way to overcome the really strong Bencic at the moment. Backing the Swiss player for a straight-set victory here.
