Anastasia Potapova v Viktorija Golubic Preview
Head-to-Head: There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Potapova has won every single time. This includes their last meeting at the 2024 French Open and a qualifier in Brisbane in 2020.
Anastasia Potapova is in her fourth tournament of the season and has now won her opener in each one of them. The latest one was in this tournament where she eased past Julia Grabher in the first round to set up a meeting with Viktorija Golubic.
Having started her season at the Brisbane International, Potapova had overcome Dayana Yastremska on her way to the third round while in Linz last week she won back to back matches in straight sets.
Here, she was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over the struggling Grabher and will now start a 2/5 favourite against Golubic.
Golubic is coming off a record-making opening round match. Facing Arantxa Rus in her opener, she needed three hours and 30 minutes to win it, making it the longest match of the season so far.
A third set tie-breaker which went on for 22 points also made it the third-longest tie-breaker (to seven points) in the 2020s.
Can she bring this fighting spirit to the Potapova match too after having won her maiden main draw encounter of the season.
Potapova v Golubic prediction: Potapova to win in three sets: 7/2
Anna Blinkova v Ella Seidel Preview
Head-to-Head: This will be their first meeting.
Ella Seidel is coming off a shock win over Jaqueline Cristian but more importantly the German teenage qualifier did not waste a lot of time on the match either.
Having never won a main draw match at this level before this, Seidel had registered successive straight-set wins over her qualifier opponents to make the main draw. Not too many, however, thought that the 11/10 underdog would romp to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Cristian too.
She will now face a tad more difficult opponent in the form of Anna Blinkova who coasted to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sara Sorribes Tormo in the first round.
Much like Potapova mentioned earlier, Blinkova has had a solid start to the season and in her fifth tournament this season she has won her openers at each one of them.
This includes a quarterfinal appearance at the Linz Open last week and Blinkova looks good to enter the same stage in this encounter as well.
Seidel v Blinkova prediction: Blinkova to win: 11/20
Elisabetta Cocciaretto v Ana Bogdan Preview
Head-to-Head: There have been two previous meetings, both of which came on clay with the scoreline at 1-1. Bogdan won at the 2021 French Open while Cocciaretto clinched the equaliser in Charleston last year.
Elisabetta Cocciaretto was in such underwhelming form coming into her opening round encounter that there were definite questions around how she might do against Irina Begu.
Defeats in the first round to Veronika Kudermetova at Hobart, Diana Shnaider at the Australian Open and then again in Linz last week against Rebecca Sramkova would have dented Cocciaretto’s confidence.
Cocciaretto is also more known for her performances on clay but coming up against the equally struggling Begu, she managed a 6-3, 7-5 victory to enter round two for the first time in five WTA tournaments.
She takes on Ana Bogdan here who needed a wildcard to enter the competition as a world number 120.
Over the seven tournaments that Bogdan had played before this one and dating back to the US Open last year, she had made the second round only once before.
Which is why her 6-2, 6-3 drubbing of Jodie Burrage would have been a relief.
This could turn out to be a tough encounter with a three-setter in the offing that could go either way.
Cocciaretto v Bogdan prediction: Three sets in the match: 6/5
