Vondrousova had entered the tournament on the back of some fitness concerns because of which she had given the Australian Open a miss but all of that seems like a distant memory right now.

Bencic Double-Bagels Kudermetova
We expected a tough battle between Belinda Bencic and Veronika Kudermetova. Like a keen tussle that goes to the third set, tough.
What actually happened was a surprise to most including us because Bencic not only won it in straight sets but also did that without dropping a game!
In a match lasting a mere 65 minutes, Bencic dropped just seven points on her own serve in the entire match! Kudermetova added a further 15 on her serve but that wasn’t enough for her to win even a game.
It’s been an excellent return to tennis so far for the Swiss player who made the second round at the Adelaide International and then put up a fight against Cori Gauff in the fourth round of the Australian Open before going down in three.
Bencic had made the second round here on the back of a three-set win over Rebecca Sramkova.

Again, a tough battle in the offing but one has to go with Bencic in this one given the manner in which she is taking out some of the players. Sure, Vondrousova is a former Grand Slam winner but there’s always that fitness worry this early on a comeback trail.
