Yulia Putintseva v Moyuka Uchijima Head to Head
Putintseva and Uchijima will be in their first meeting.
Putintseva at Career-Best Despite Early Abu Dhabi Loss
At the time of writing, Yulia Putintseva is still 21st ranked on the official WTA Rankings but when those get updated on Monday, she would have tipped over to 20th – her career-best ranking.
This is despite her opening round defeat in Abu Dhabi as Marketa Vondrousova took her out in two easy sets.
That result was a bit of a surprise given the kind of form that Putintseva had brought into the tournament – making the third round at the Brisbane International, third round at the Australian Open and going one further in Adelaide with a semifinal appearance.
And the players she has already gotten past this season? Donna Vekic, Ons Jabeur, Diana Shnaider and McCartney Kessler to name a few.
She will surely have a very good chance of doing a better job here than she did last time in Qatar when she fell in the qualifiers.

Uchijima Makes it Through the Qualifiers
Moyuka Uchijima has featured in five previous tournaments this season and the only main draw match she has won so far came at the Australian Open where she shocked Magda Linette in a gruelling three-setter.
Since that victory, Uchijima has lost in the second round in Melbourne to Mirra Andreeva, went down to Olivia Gadecki in Linz and failed to qualify for Abu Dhabi after a qualifiers loss and then lost again in the first round of that tournament as a lucky loser.
That she defeated Anastasia Zakharova and Sonay Kartal in the qualifiers would be a bit of a relief. More so because Kartal had beaten her just a week ago in the Abu Dhabi qualifiers.
Against Putintseva, Uchijima will need to up her game drastically if she wants to get past that opening round hoodoo.
Putintseva v Uchijima Prediction
Putintseva has this one and should coast to a win as the odds of 1/5 also represent. Straight sets.
