Jessica Pegula v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head
Two previous matches between these two players have resulted in a 1-1 scoreline. Pegula won in Rome in 2021 while Alexandrova levelled things out in Miami last year.
Pegula Ends Kasatkina’s Journey
Daria Kasatkina has looked like she can pack a punch on a given day but coming up against the 2023 Doha finalist, Jessica Pegula, the Russian fell way short of challenging her opponent.
In a match lasting an hour and 40 minutes, the world number five completed a 6-3, 7-5 win to march into the last eight stage.
Pegula broke Kasatkina twice in the first set and looked set to clinch an even easier win than she eventually did when she took a 3-1 lead in the second set.
Kasatkina came back to get the better of her opponent’s serve on two occasions and served for the set at 5-4 at one stage. It was Pegula’s turn to turn the tables this time as she first broke back to level things out and then again to seal the deal.
This follows a straight set win in the previous round against Elina Svitolina for the Adelaide International runner-up.
Pegula will know she has a tough one in the offing here.

Alexandrova Routs Mertens
Having never made the last eight stage of this tournament, this was Ekaterina Alexandrova’s best chance given the opponent she was up against and her own form.
And Alexandrova made all those factors count to complete a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Elise Mertens and move to the quarterfinals.
Alexandrova, who had come into this competition with a title in Linz, spent just 72 minutes on court before winning and marching on. She was broken once in the encounter but retaliated with four service breaks to clinch her spot.
This win followed a stunning performance from Alexandrova to get past the world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the second round. She now has won seven in a row and will prove to be quite a handful for any player given her rhythm.
Pegula v Alexandrova Prediction
While Pegula will be a favourite here purely on the basis of her superior ranking, we cannot overlook Alexandrova’s form here. It will take a lot to get the better of her here and we are backing her to win this.
