Francisco Cerundolo v Yannick Hanfmann Preview
Head-to-Head: There have been five previous meetings between these two players including once in the qualifiers of an event and Cerundolo leads 4-1. Hanfmann’s only win came in Hamburg in 2023 while Cerundolo took the win in their last meeting at the French Open last year.
Will Francisco Cerundolo be satisfied with his clay court campaign this season? That’s a question that one might have a better idea about after this tournament.
Because so far, it’s been a bit of this and a bit of that for the Argentine.
He had made it to the final of the Argentina Open and would have liked to add to his title tally count, only to lose to Joao Fonseca. Cerundolo would have liked to do better in Rio than his quarterfinal appearance when he lost to Alexandre Muller.
He enters this match with a first round bye under his belt, which would be a nice little break for him having played in three successive weeks now.
Yannick Hanfmann has no such confusion regarding his own form – it’s been underwhelming. The first round win here against Facundo Diaz Acosta would be a boost for sure but that came on the back of four tournaments this season where he failed to win a main draw encounter.
It would be a case of relief for him more than confidence-inducing though as he takes on a player who is not only higher pedigreed than him but has also beaten him multiple times in the past.
Cerundolo v Hanfmann prediction: Cerundolo to win in straight sets: 1/1

Cristian Garin v Tomas Martin Etcheverry Preview
Head-to-Head: Their only previous meeting came in the quarterfinal of the Houston Open in 2023 where Etcheverry had won in three sets.
Juan Pablo Ficovich had entered the main draw here with wins in the qualifiers but going up against the home favourite Cristian Garin he was a distant 6/4 underdog in the encounter.
Garin, however, hasn’t been playing a lot of tennis and took his time to get into some kind of rhythm. In a first round match that lasted two and a half hours, Garin was forced to come back from a set down to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
It was his first win on clay since Munich last year.
Things are expected to only get tougher for him as he takes to court for his second round match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry who did not waste too much time in battering Hugo Gaston in the first round
The Argentine won 6-2, 6-3 in double quick time and will now be gunning for his first set of successive victories for the season. This follows an opening round exit at the Argentina Open and a second round loss in Rio for Etcheverry.
Garin v Etcheverry prediction: Etcheverry to win: 1/2
