Pedro Martinez v Laslo Djere Preview
Head-to-Head: There have been three previous meetings between these two and Djere has won every single time. These matches were played in Cordoba in 2020, Sofia in 2021 and in Stockholm last year.
Pedro Martinez had an opening round bye coming into this match but he has also two matches in a row before that. The defeats came in the semifinal at the Buenos Aires Open and Rio.
While Francisco Cerundolo was an expected favourite against him in the former, it was surprising to see Martinez go down to Ugo Carabelli in his opener at the latter.
A semifinalist here last year, Martinez now has a task on his hands as he looks to overturn his poor head to head record against Laslo Djere. Djere has some form under his belt with his first clay court competition for the season yielding a semifinal berth in Buenos Aires where he had begun as a qualifier.
In the first round here, Djere registered his sixth main draw of the season by defeating Ignacio Buse in straight sets. And he will be a heavy favourite in the second round against someone he has a wood on.
Martinez v Djere prediction: Djere to win: 2/5

Jaime Faria v Gustavo Heide Preview
Head-to-Head: Both their previous meetings came on the Challenger circuit and Faria has won them both. These matches were played on clay and held last year.
Jaime Faria had hit a career-best ranking of 87th coming into this week and that was thanks to his consistencies on clay.
A second round appearance at the Australian Open earlier this year as a qualifier was a sparkling showing but he took it a step further when he made it to the ATP 500 event in Rio as a lucky loser and defeated Marcelo Barrios Vera and Jaume Munar in his first couple of rounds there.
And here in Santiago, Faria took advantage of his own form and shocked the 11/20 favourite Luciano Darderi 6-3, 6-4 to grab a spot in the second round.
He faces the 160th-ranked Gustavo Heide who is himself coming off an upset win over Thiago Seyboth Wild. After having made the main draw here as a qualifier, Heide was on court for an hour and 45 minutes for his 7-5, 6-2 victory.
This was his maiden ATP win for the season and just the second tournament of his career in which he has won a round. The last time he did that was in Gstaad last year where he made the quarterfinal at the expense of Ugo Humbert.
Faria v Heide prediction: Three sets in the match: 7/5
