Reilly Opelka v Roman Safiullin Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between Opelka and Safiullin.
Opelka Improves to 114th in the World
Reilly Opelka had been out of action because of fitness-related concerns but his comeback this season has been filled with a lot of hope for the former world number 17.
Having started the 2024 season ranked outside the top 1100 because of his absence from the courts, Opelka broke into the top 300 by the end of that season.
And he will enter this competition as a wildcard entrant ranked 114th following his performances in Brisbane and other tournaments.
Opelka made it to the final of that tournament, beating Novak Djokovic on his way to doing that and while he retired from that contest, he went on to feature in three more tournaments after that.
At the Australian Open, Opelka lost in the second round to the rising star Tomas Machc, at Dallas he defeated Alexander Shevchemko and Cameron Norrie on his way to the quarterfinals and is coming off a second round exit at the Delray Beach Open.

Safiullin Still Waiting for First Win of the Season
If Roman Safiullin thought at the start of the season that he could get back to his career-best ranking of 36th in the world, things haven’t quite gone his way.
He started off poorly with first round losses at Hong Kong, Adelaide and then again at the Australian Open and then flew over to Doha to be drawn against Alex de Minaur in his opener there as well. Unsurprisingly, Safiullin lost in the first round there too.
Safiullin’s only wins then came in the qualifiers of the ATP Dubai and he made the main draw where he played Tallon Griekspoor. Up a set, he lost the next two in tie-breakers to make it five successive first round losses for the season.
And he now takes on a player who has not only shown good form after returning from his layoff but he’s also looked good enough to take down a player like Novak Djokovic.
Opelka v Safiullin Predictions
Opelka should have no real worries getting the better of Safiullin in this one and we are expecting this to not even go to the third set.
Opelka v Safiullin Tips
- Opelka to win in straight sets: 4/5
