Iga Swiatek v Linda Noskova Head to Head
There have been five previous meetings between these two players and Swiatek leads 4-1.
This includes a Billie Jean King Cup three-setter last year that Swiatek edged through and wins in Miami and Indian Wells last year. Interestingly, those victories had followed an upset win for Noskova at the Australian Open.
Swiatek Makes Short Work of Sakkari
Iga Swiatek would have been disappointed to not make the Australian Open final and go on to win the title but it’s onward and upward from there. She is a three-time defending champion here and what better way than to kick-start its defence with a convincing win.
And that’s exactly what Swiatek did in the second round of the tournament, having gotten herself a first round bye.
In a match that went on for an hour and 23 minutes, Swiatek was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Maria Sakkari. Her serve did cause her a few problems with Sakkari breaking it twice in the match but once Swiatek had the grasp of the conditions there was no looking back.
From being down 2-3 in the first set, Swiatek went on win 10 of the following 12 games to cement her place in the third round where she will take on Linda Noskova.

Noskova Shows Putintseva No Mercy
Linda Noskova had made the semifinals of the Abu Dhabi Open last week and it looks like she has carried her form over to this week too as she won her second successive match in straight sets.
Having sent Donna Vekic packing in the first round for the loss of a mere six games, Noskova went better in the second when she got the better of the in-form Yulia Putintseva.
Putintseva was herself a semifinalist in Adelaide earlier this year and had made the third round of the Australian Open to stand at her career-best ranking of 20th in the world. The Kazakh, however, proved to be no match for Noskova.
In a mere 64 minutes, Noskova had earned herself five breaks of serves from five break-points to clinch a 6-3, 6-2 win and a third round berth.
While Swiatek will be a far tougher proposition for her, Noskova will know this is the kind of form she would like to be in before facing a player of that quality.
