Jessica Pegula v Daria Kasatkina Head to Head
There have been three previous matches between these two players and Pegula leads 2-1. They last played at Charleston last year and Kasatkina had won that one in a fighting three-setter that went to a tie-breaker in the final set.
Pegula Stretched but Comes Through against Svitolina
Jessica Pegula always knew Elina Svitolina wouldn’t be giving up without a fight and while that’s exactly what happened on court, the American was able to come through in straight sets.
In a match lasting nearly two hours and having a plethora of breaks of serves, Pegula won 6-3, 7-6 (3) to seal a third round berth.
Having missed out on the last year’s competition in Doha and being a finalist the last time she had featured here before losing to Iga Swiatek, Pegula had an opening round bye.
And while things started off well for her in the first set when she broke just once to grab it, it went completely awry in the second. They traded two breaks of serves in the first four games, another two in the next four, and a further four out of the next four to take it to a tie-breaker.
Pegula sealed her opponent’s fate by taking a 5-0 lead in it and entered round three moments after that.

Kasatkina Routs Avanesyan
Daria Kasatkina had entered the second round on the back of a 6-0, 6-0 drubbing of Polina Kudermetova. And while she obviously couldn’t repeat something similar in the second round, Kasatkina was equally at ease against Elina Avanesyan.
She was on court for an hour and 31 minutes alright but Kasatkina wasn’t really made to sweat as she completed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Avanesyan.
While the two earned a break apiece in the first four games and it looked like things could get close, that was the last time Kasatkina dropped her serve. She broke her opponent two more times in the opening set and followed it up with two further breaks in the second to cruise through.
The opposition quality will rise dramatically as she takes to court here but Kasatkina has some form under her belt with a win-loss ratio of 8-4 under her belt.
