What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Dubai?
In an event that had Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Cori Gauff, Elena Rybakina and a host of other such top players in the draw, it was a near-shock to see Jasmine Paolini take on Russian qualifier Anna Kalinskaya in the final.
In the end, it was Paolini who took the title, kick-starting a season that would see her match the finals at the French Open and Wimbledon as well.
Paolini came back from a set down to clinch her second title on the women’s circuit, beating Kalinskaya 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Kalinskaya had earlier taken down Swiatek in the semifinals, after having sent Cori Gauff packing in the quarterfinals. Paolini was helped by a walkover from Rybakina after having gotten past Maria Sakkari in the previous round.
